J&A Oben Foundation Nutrition Ambassador, Ben Decca, Commits to Fight Hunger in Cameroon
In response to the J & A Oben Foundation’s vision, Nutrition Ambassador Ben Decca has taken up the challenge to fight hunger in Cameroonian households.
He made the declaration last December during a ceremony organized by the J & A Oben Foundation to officially present him as the Foundation’s Nutrition Ambassador to his community in Deido, Douala.
"While visiting some local communities, I noticed most children were malnourished. That is why I took up the slogan that ‘no Cameroonian shall sleep hungry in a country where food is produced in abundance', Ben Decca said while addressing his community. Ben Decca added that joining the fight against malnutrition is, to him, a gesture of goodwill towards the wellbeing of the society. “You all know me as a musician but today I am going to be taking on a role which will have a direct impact on our society. Through my music I am going to sensitize the population on the dangers of malnutrition in children," he said. Ben Decca's nutrition campaign slogan, depicts the need to save the lives of children suffering from malnutrition.
Distribution of Nutritious Food Packs
The Ambassador used the occasion as an to distribute food packs containing different items contained a well-balanced diet to his local community.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of J&A Oben Foundation, Ms. Malaika Doualla, noted that the choice of Ben Decca as Nutrition Ambassador came as a push to the Foundation’s prime agenda of sensitizing Cameroonians on healthy eating.
“We came to realize that, though Cameroon is blessed with food, Cameroonians are either over-nourished or under-nourished. We believe using the voice of Ben Decca’s, an international artist will cause many to take our plight of getting every Cameroonian well-nourished”.
Representing the Co-founder and President of the J & A Oben Foundation, Dr. Ibrahim pointed out the urgency to eradicate hidden hunger. “At least one in three children suffer from chronic malnutrition, and more so, malnutrition is the main cause of anemia in pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and infants,” He called on all to join hands in the fight against malnutrition.
The ceremony saw the presence of officials of the Douala I council, traditional rulers of the Deido clan, as well as staff of the J&A Oben Foundation.
It was an occasion to savour the beautiful Sawa culture in brilliant dance performances.
